Summary/Abstract: The main purpose of the article is to analyse the changes that have occurred in the sphere of family functioning which are clearly visible in the modern world. Considerations in this regard include the historical development of the family and family relations with emphasis on its social role and the psychological and sociological aspects of family relations. Attention is given to the issues of legal qualification to the group of personal interests, such values as family life and family bond, which provided an incentive to distinguish an autonomical group of family personal interests and relevant subjective rights, such rights as: the right to an undisturbed family life, the right to live in a full family, the right to have parents, and the right to maintain and cultivate family contacts. Also addressed in the research is the impact of achievements in medical science and genetics in relation to the limits of procreative autonomy, now considered as a special family personal interest – the right to have a child.
