Summary/Abstract: The postcolonial (postcolonialism, postcolonial studies, postcolonial criticism) originally refers only to research on relations between European colonizer (mainly Great Britain and France, but also Spain and Portugal) and colonized countries and cultures in Asia, Africa and South America. However, nowadays this term is present in various scientific disciplines and its application is not restricted to research of relations between colonizing and colonized cultures of (predominantly) English and French speaking area. The postcolonial discourse and various concepts of the postcolonial approach (mimicry, third space, and hybridity) have been employed in different fields of research on German literature and culture, without applying the approach itself and its basic postulates. Recently, the attention of researchers has been caught by colonial linguistics of German speaking area, which has been formed as a young linguistic discipline. The aim of this paper is to explore and present the possibilities of implementing the postcolonial approach, discourse or concepts in modern research of German literature, culture and language.
