Summary/Abstract: The following novels “How the Soldier Repairs the Gramophone”(1999) and “Why the Child is Cooking in the Polenta”(2006) are written by two authors (Aglaja Veteranyi and Saša Stanišić), who have left their country of origin as children. In this paper by using these two novels will be examined what role the country of origin plays for the self-image of the individuals who are moving between different cultures.
