Summary/Abstract: The paper deals with key moments in the history of the Folk Music Archive, Institute of Music/ Institute of Musicology, BAS, from the transfer of the Music Section of the Ethnographic Museum (bringing in the collections of manuscripts, print media, equipment and three researchers: Raina Katsarova, Ivan Kachulev and Elena Stoin), to their constant enrichment and development until the Institute of Musicology closed in 1989. Using a large amount of archival items from the Scientific Archives of BAS, the way in which the collections at the Folk Music Archive have been structured in a certain period (1950s–1980s) is traced: phonograph records (vinyl records and tapes); lyrics (fieldwork material on paper); film archive (stock footage and videotapes); stills archive. The changes in the process of the researchers’ work are considered along with their tasks, their direct responsibilities for certain collections and work on fieldwork materials
