Summary/Abstract: The author of the article, analyzing the leading trends in the development of the world literary process and literary criticism, pays special attention to the contemporary literary process of Kazakhstan, Russia and the United States. Literary fiction influences the construction of national identity. Postmodernism, neo-realism, neo-sentimentalism, the combination of experiment with realism in depicting the characters of literary protagonists, the tendency of the rapprochement of the artistic text with the media text are the leading trends in national literatures in which the text evolves towards hypertext. Reflection of foreign themes in art works reveals what is 'ours', 'alien' and 'universal'. Intercultural transfer is defined by dynamism.
