Summary/Abstract: Cultural heritage is a unique resource due to its historical, aesthetic,architectural, social, marketing or environmental qualities. The ability tofind an optimal point that would not depreciate and devastate these valuableresources, and at the same time use the existing economic potential, is oneof the most difficult tasks faced by key heritage stakeholders in the holisticapproach to managing cultural heritage.The paper presents theoretical considerations on the possibilities of usingcultural heritage objects (both in terms of individual elements as well ashistoric urban spaces) as the arena for sports events. The aim of the article is topresent successful examples of sports events organization in cultural heritageobjects, which are the result of a skillful compromise between the progressiveprofessionalization and commercialization of sport and the introductionof cultural heritage management principles.The result of the considerations is to formulate the function of sportsevents, which are organized in places of special historical value, as wellas the presentation of the theoretical model of relations between entitiesimplementing and commissioning the organization of a sporting eventin a historic facility/area.
