Summary/Abstract: The study offers an interpretation of a theatre play (El Divino Narciso) written by a Mexican nun Juana Inés de la Cruz at the end of the 17th century. The interpretation in the context of the genre of Eucharistic drama focuses on its mythological and allegorical character, in broader sense on the poetics close to Spanish mystic tradition and artistic syncretisms, which inspired the creative and dynamic tension between the autochthon heritage of the American continent and the European culture. The main idea behind the interpretation of this baroque play is the theological concept of vicarious substitution introduced in to the Catholic theology of the 20th century by H.U.von Balthasar. The final part offers a suggestion to see the genre of Eucharistic drama in the context of loci theologici.
