Summary/Abstract: The article analyzes the clauses of the Venetian diplomat Marino Cavalli’s will, which give more clarity about the scale of the property and the will practices of this prominent representative of the Venetian patricians. A matter of special focus are the forms and methods, with which Cavalli has tried to preserve the property and capital of his family. The information about the nature and the size of the properties accumulated during the 20s to 60s of the century is a good example of the change in the Venetian patrician’s social status: he turns from an active merchant and banker to a land owner and banker of the continent (Terraferma). The Bulgarian translation of the document, which is of interest for the social history, the history of the mentalities, the micro-history etc, is presented in the Appendix.
