Summary/Abstract: The article by Julia Kowalska centres on analysing the character played by Klara Bielawka in Oliver Frljić’s The Curse at the Powszechny Theatre in Warsaw. The author begins by critically reconstructing elements of the debate which played out in the media after the performance, in particular those describing and interpreting scenes which Bielawka performed in. Kowalska goes on to describe and analyse the performance of Klara Bielawka in The Curse, noting how the actress played with the stereotypical, normative‍‑catholic image of women, along with consumerist images of female sexuality and ways of presenting women in theatre. The escalating rage in the scenes described and the powerlessness in the face violence against woman are, according to the author, transformed by Klara Bielawka into an act of symbolic revenge.
