Summary/Abstract: Josip Broz Tito played a key role in the exchange and reptriation of German prisoners of war (PoWs) in Yugoslavia during and after the Second World War. The first instance took place during the so-called ''March negotiations'' between partisan leadership and German occupation authorities in 1943. After open criticism from Moscow, Tito withdrew from this activity. The second case study occurred after the Second World War when Tito used for internal political purposes the issue of German PoWs by pragmatically arranging for their letters, which they used to send to him, to be published in leading Yugoslav newspapers.
