Summary/Abstract: Analyzing the ballad “The Brotherly Love and the Envy of the Wife” as well as two other its versions, the author of this article is of the mind that in it are manifested the first signs of the dissolution of the patriarchal family of many generations and it is manifested the tendency to prefer a family made up only by the couple and its children. Parallely with this phenomenon, this text gives an information relatively rich the Albanian mythology, the ethnic norms, according to which functioned the family and the Albanian society in the past. A special merit of this ballad is that the Albanian man and woman are presented with all their complexity, with positive and negative features. It has evident ethical and social value, because indirectly condemns the self-judgement and violence towards the woman.
