Summary/Abstract: Ethnicity may take on a whole range of forms. The article deals with forms of the revitalisation of the Czech ethnicity of immigrants to Bosnia and Herzegovina at the turn of the 19th/20th century among their descendants during the war period of 1992–1996. It concentrates partly on forms of ethnic argumentation and partly on the social bond that the descendants of the Czech immigrants sought to create by setting up ethnic institutions. On the basis of his research findings the author concludes that in this case ethnicity is not the bearer of cultural continuity but more a social attitude and element legitimising the personal identity of the individual.
