Summary/Abstract: The aim of this text is to present the contemporary Czech town as a milieu of immigration for differentiated foreign communities. The basic question posed is that of the kind of strategies used by immigrants in their efforts to adapt to an alien cultural environment and to integrate themselves into its structures. In the introductory section of the article the author reflects on the contemporary character of migration to the Czech Republic. In the following text he focuses on the selected groups of long-term settled foreigners in urban conditions, who have been the subject of field research projects in recent years, and for which relevant data are to hand. The following groups are briefly considered: Slovaks, Ukrainians, Armenians, Georgians, Chinese and Vietnamese.
