Summary/Abstract: The text discusses the value of literary works of writers who have lost their original recognition and appreciation due to their political views before 1990. Specifi cally, it explores the work of Stephan Hermlin (1915-1997) and his Abendlicht prose which as such can be seen as the author‘s refl ection on his relationship with the two diff erent political realities of his time. The fi rst part of the text outlines Hermlin‘s position in the literary society whereas the second part of the text examines the esthetics of Abendlicht in relation to its textual forms and functions.
