The role of the father in a modern family

Summary/Abstract: Aim. The purpose of this article is to draw attention to the role of father in a family that changes over the years. Nowadays it is more and more common for fathers to leave their families. This is reflected in economic emigration and divorces. The lack of proper fathers’ involvement in playing the role of a father as well as raising children by single mothers has a negative impact on children’s development due to often difficult situations that mothers and their children can not cope with. Lack of a father in the family may, among others, cause the loss of the sense of security of its members, negatively affects the development of children. The article presents the results of research on women’s opinions about the role of father in a contemporary family. Methods. The research was carried out by means of a diagnostic survey, a questionnaire technique, conducted among 100 female students of the Pedagogy the pedagogy of the Higher Banking School in Chorzów. Results and conclusions. Research shows that currently young women have specific expectations towards men and their role as a father. They think that if a man cannot cope with this role, it is better that a child be raised without a father. Such research results are not promising for the future of the family, because despite the fact that women are more and more independent and independent, however, both parents are needed for correct learning of social roles. Each of them gives the child different values, other patterns needed to shape his identity. The love they give their child is also different.
