Summary/Abstract: The study is aiming to deal about the history of Transylvania before and during the Thirty Years' War (1618–1648), by focusing on Gabriel Béthlen reign, as well as on his marriage with Ecaterina von Hohenzollern, or Katharina von Brandenburg. In this respect, the study mirrors the importance of the political and military, diplomatic and dynastic alliances, which many times, but not always, were in line with the religious paths or devotional options adopted by the heads of states.
