Summary/Abstract: The paper seeks an answer concerning the status of metropolitan policy at regional level. Metropolitan policy of a region fits the structure of state and regional urban policy. The paper reflects upon challenges of the metropolitan policy of a region and its external determinants (European, national and intraregional). As a conclusion a typology of regional metropolitan policies is pinpointed, explaining strategic orientations that can be applied.
