Summary/Abstract: Ion Clopoţel and the Sociology of Press. High class intellectual and a very interested researcher in the social reality, I. Clopoţel (1892-) was, in the same time, one of the first journalists of the Romanian field in the beginning of the XX century. His activity in the journalistic field was focused on the study of the social functions and the rolls of the press, and other topics that contributed at the development of the journalistic area. Thinking about press as the highest public debates forum where social, economic, politic, cultural, etc., problems are analyzed, I. Clopoţel sustained the necessity of improving the condition for work in this profession and he underlined the importance of its "transformation" in what Max Weber defined by the word beruf.
