Summary/Abstract: Since its start in the 1960s, Islamic banking has become a global phenomenon. At the moment, there is only one active Islamic bank in the former Yugoslav republics - "Bosna Bank International (BBI)", which is active in Bosnia and Herzegovina, whereas there is no Islamic Bank in Serbia and no one is planned to be established in the near future. In order to examine the acceptability of Islamic banking to local citizens, a pilot research has been conducted in the town Novi Pazar, which has a majority Muslim population. This research concentrated on the possibility of mobilizing funds, trust in financial institutions and readiness to use an Islamic bank for finance.
