Summary/Abstract: In 1978 at the site of Gradina, the acropolis of illyrian city of Daorson, located above the village Ošanići near Stolac, the inside door to the acropolis was discovered. This discovery was at the most northern part of the eastern supporting wall (T. I). The dimensions of the floor base of the door were 1,9 X 1,9 meters, and had a ston-made, stairs-shaped doorstep at the entrance. The Southern and northern sides of the door were bordered by walls built from stony rectangular blocks. (T, II, 1, T. Ill, 1-3). On both sides of the entrance doorstep (doorstep Nol) there are 2 round holes for the wooden axis of two-winged wooden door (T. II, 2). In order to reduce the friction, the very bottoms of the axis were reinforced by round iron plates with a sharp point in the middle (T. IV, 9) and by iron ring-tube T. IV, 8). The upper parts of the axis were also reinforced by iron ring-tubes (T. IV, 7) but they were put into the wooden header of the door. This door, which was built in the second half of the 3rd century BC and was abandoned around 50-40 BC, led to a smaller platform next to the Third Castle, and to the holly shrine located at the northwest of the acropolis. The most important findings from this site are big iron lock with 3 holes for inserting keys, and 2 iron dead bolts from the lock. (T- III, 4-6). From the inside, the door was secured by a wooden horizontal beam which was dragged through 3 iron brackets (T. IV, 5) the dimensions of which were 9-10 x 9-10 cm. Big iron nails (T. IV. 2, 6) which are 13-14 cm long, prove that the joints of the beams were covered by wide boards, around 4 cm thick. The same thickness of the door wings. All details from this door match the characteristics of a typical door from Hellenistic fortress, 6, 20, 11 as well as all preserved architectural remains of this city, which was the center of the illyrian tribe and small country of Daors.
