Summary/Abstract: Since H. Müller-Karpe wrote his important book on grip-tongue swords (Die Vollgriffschwerter der Urnenfelderzeit aus Bayern), in which he mentioned only a few examples from the northern Balkans, new finds have been made in this region, representing various types of grip-tongue swords chronologically placed from the 13th to the 10th century BC. Particular attention is given to four swords found around the mouth of the Morava river: in Saraorci (a variant of the Rigsee type), in Orašje, Dubravka (a further variation of the same type), in the Danube near Kovin (a Dreiwulstschwert of the Schwaig type) and in the Danube near the mouth of the Morava (a Schalenknaufschwert of the Königsdorf type). On the basis of these swords and other metal finds from the same area the author supposes the existence of local workshops at the Morava mouth which were elaborating European metal forms as well as creating their own.
