Summary/Abstract: One of the most prominent ethnologist of the second part of the XXth Century, Romulus Vulcănescu (1912, February 23rd - 1999, November 11th) left behind him a vast oeuvre, including the first Introduction to Ethnology, the first Dictionary of Ethnology and the first history of a discipline that established as an autonomous one after the Second World War. Romulus Vulcănescu is a forerunner in several fields of the ethnological sciences, as for instance, juridical ethnology and mythology. Remembering him now, at his centennial anniversary, is a way of paying tribute to a great scholar and to an original thinker. And, not less, this is an occasion to reiterate the task of re-reading his works in the light of the modern, actual trends of the social sciences.
