Summary/Abstract: The concept of decent work was launched by Juan Somavia in his first reportas General Director of the International Labor Organization presented at the 1999Conference as a response to the deterioration of workers' rights caused mainly byglobalization. Since then, there has been a need to address the social dimension ofglobalization and, in particular, decent work, which essentially represents the possibility forthe worker to perform a professional activity that will bring him a fair salary, provide him andhis family with work security and social protection. Decent work also requires that the workerbenefit from working conditions generating professional development and social integration, social dialogue, and equal opportunities and treatment.
