The role of the newspaper Podem to restore spiritual life in Silistra in the period 1940-1941

Summary/Abstract: The object of observation in the text is the role of the "Podem"newspaper for the restoration of the spiritual life in Silistra in the first year after the return of South Dobrudzha to Bulgaria under the Treaty of Craiova (1940). It presents cultural objects and events, which become symbols of the city, have a key role in ethno-consolidation processes,creation of cultural memory and are projections of nationalism as a cultural phenomenon. An attempt has been made to highlight the role of the printed word in the creation of the national community and the spiritual values which affirm the identity in border regions.
