Summary/Abstract: The President of the Personal Data Protection Office and the subordinates under the provisions of the General Data Protection Regulation and the Personal Data Protection Act have the right to audit law firms in the presence of attorneys at law. As part of this audit, attorneys at law, in addition to providing information and documentation regarding the principles and implementation of the privacy policy, are obliged to make available all premises, rooms, facilities and means for processing personal data – which may to a greater or lesser extent jeopardize or violate professional secrecy. Due to the fact that violations of personal data protection regulations are usually a display of improper discharge of professional duties as attorneys at law, as well, it would seem that the self-government of attorneys at law should demonstrate not only a more systematic approach to the problem of personal data protection among its members – which could benefit the protection of professional secrecy – but also undertake efforts to become the sole authority competent under the provisions of the GDPR for supervision and auditing in this sphere.
