Summary/Abstract: It is a fact that Turkey is going through a very complex period, with extremely serious political and social developments. In this internal and regional context, the democratic involutions invoked in the Western world have made the relations of the Turkish state with the EU and some Western powers marked by continuous degradation and, obviously, by a dangerous distancing from cemented traditions for many decades of close alignment and co-operation. At regional level, Ankara faces many overlapping challenges, enough to list the Syrian dossier, the Kurdish issue, the Qatar crisis, security developments in the Middle East and, as a general evaluation, in MENA states. To respond adequately to those many regional challenges or to be part of the table where important decisions will be made in order to shape post-conflict Syria, Ankara has been oriented towards developing co-operation with other states, otherwise rival. This is the case of Russia and Iran. Cooperation in foreign and military affairs with NATO, UE, the US and with other Western powers has gradually experienced a large deficit. Fortunately, there is no irreversible fracture in traditional relations with allies and Western partners, but it depends only on Turkey what future geopolitical model it will want to build.
