Summary/Abstract: China and India are the most populous states in Asia and in the world and their bilateral and multilateral relations should be a good indicative of the future security architecture in Asia. Born from the decolonization process after the two world wars and from the military defeat of revisionist hegemonic powers by the United Nations coalition, the two big states had a turbulent historical relations, with a bloody border war in 1962, disputed borders (inherited from the India’s colonial past) and diametrical positions towards their common neighborhood Pakistan. The future of their relations will depend on China’s military and economic rise and India’s position towards US, Japan and other states which are seen as a major risk by Beijing.
