Tabooistic namings of diseases in the south-Bulgarian dialects

Summary/Abstract: The names of diseases are investigated in synchrony, having in mind themanner of their tabooing. i.e. by means of lexical denomination (intentional choiceof nomination signs from chosen semantic circles) or by change in their externalform (i.e formal, more often phonetic, as well as morphological means).The results of the analysis show the following:The tabovistic names of diseases with their internal and/ or external formhave two functions: hiding the real name of the disease and its humanization. Thefirst function being main and determinative.
