Summary/Abstract: For a charter by demise to be valid, it shall be drown up in writing. Monetary compensation, i.e. payment of hire, must be the contents of a written charter by demise as payment of hire is an essential component of a charter by demise. So the written form of the contract must contain all important components of that agreement. An oral agreement in respect of the payment of hire amount could be valid only if the parties would be defaulting a service contract relating to the charter fee over a longer period of time.
