Summary/Abstract: The paper actualizes the question of interpretation of religious and social changes in the period of Communism, which has become essential for the understanding of current social processes. This interpretation is based on differences in the social and religious development of Slovenia and Hungary on the one hand, and Croatia on the other. The Slovenian and Hungarian examples are particularly relevant because in these countries the process of de-Christianization has quite clearly (in an empirically recognizable way) ended in 1978. Such a course of events is explained by the Hungarian sociologist Miklos Tomka through the process of institutional anomy and concepts of a strong and weak society, and not the concepts of modernization, structural differentiation and secularization. Thus in the following period of development (after 1978) the revitalization of religion is seen as the key point of the regeneration of society.
