What Did Paul Have to Do with Second Sophistic?

Summary/Abstract: This article presents some homiletical theories which refuse rhetoric as consisting mainly of sophistic orations and operate with a special rhetorical form and strategy of their own. Every message has its own style, the style itself being a rhetorical category. This means that the con-tent and the form are inseparable. Paul did not intend to embellish the second sophistic, but he utilised all rhetorical possibilities to make the Gospel more clear. He uses rhetoric, namely the Attic one – over against the Asian style.
