Summary/Abstract: In this paper we analyse the presentation of „others” in Stevan Sremac’s short sto ries. Starting from the understanding of identity and stereotypes in imagology we focus on hetero stereotypes and the portraits of others in two Sremac’s short stores – Kir Geras and Kir Moša Abenšaam, or the History about the way in which Kir Moša lost one of his benefits. Use of humour enables Sremac to portrait the „foreigners” not as “monstrous others” of European cultural tradition, but as close neighbours with whom the readers easily sympathize.
