Summary/Abstract: The three decades of reign of King Augustus III was not only the time of the worst crisis of the systemic institutions of the nobility, but also the period when the concept of thorough repair of the state was ripening. The commentators have long reviled the failures that over the decades turned the harmless yet troublesome nuisances into significant problems threatening the further existence of the state. At the moment of the king’s death, the conviction about the necessity of changes was quite widespread among the nobility. Yet the profound differences lay in the scope of the reforms, especially the objectives to be reached, and the costs that could be incurred to achieve them. The pre-convocation Sejmiki (Covens or, literally, “little parliaments”) showed clearly where the line of division runs, and the convocations of the Land of Chełm and the Land of Lublin portray in detail the approach of the nobility to the problem of changes. As far as the first was ready to carry the burden incurred by the process of healing the state, the nobility of Lublin Region wanted to introduce reforms without any obligation to finance them.
