Summary/Abstract: The prime purpose of protests is to disseminate and promote new perspectives in order to change society’s cultural sensibilities. It needs to be pointed out that protestors’ choices of tactics are dependent on their moral visions and socially accepted habits and norms. In this regard, protestors often exploit visual and verbal resources in protests as they are easily artistically adapted and offer considerable space for the creative expression of the central idea behind the movement. By analyzing several protest signs using the framework of conceptual integration theory, the paper attempts to clarify the role visual and verbal elements have in the creation of meaning and relaying the main message to the public, with the aim of promulgating alternative views and influencing public opinion.
