Summary/Abstract: Our approach aims to present Mateiu I. Caragiale as a talented prose writer, creator of an original style, which generated numerous attempts of the critics to define his uniqueness or to place his works within certain literary movements. Our analysis shows how his craft is based on a deep knowledge of language mechanisms and how it illustrated his frame of mind.
