MEANING’S NEGOTIATION AND SIGN’S IMAGE

Summary/Abstract: Our study investigates how the negotiation of the meaning of the world takes place throughout history in the poem "Memento mori" by Mihai Eminescu. The method used is a thematic-linguistic one. It is noted that the initial gesture, the impulse to trigger the poetic imagination is the understanding of history as a book; This makes it possible, with the mechanism of opening the book by preference, to stop the wheel of history in relation to the preference for one called the level of development of human civilization. Understanding the stages of the evolution of society takes place on the basis of signs that predict the future; The change of civilizations is a change of signs, a change of languages, a change of explanation and comprehension of signs. On the other hand, the system of signs change when the signs explain and their understanding contradict each other. There is a moment when, the explanation of old signs and their understanding contradicts: thus emerges in the negotiation of the meaning of explanation / understanding a segregation, a contradiction. When the contradiction is incomprehensible and unexplained, the jump leads to a higher level of civilization. With contradiction being permanent, civilizations will prove to be precarious, fragile, perishable, vain. Everything passes, the torrent perishes, eternal is the contradiction of signs, the negotiation of meaning, the change of systems of signs.
