Summary/Abstract: Being the product of a particular historical, political, cultural, and social context, the journalistic discourse has strong referential roots, providing a complex picture of the evolution of political and cultural mentalities. This study proposes a perspective upon the beginnings of journalism in Romanian in the attempt to capture the crystallization phenomenon of a journalistic discourse marked by specific topics and forms of expression. We intend to connect the presentation to the social and political data of the 19th century, that offer the premises for the configuration of a distinct profile of the Romanian journalism, while representing, at the same time, the source of the topics discussed by the most important publications of the time.
