Intertextual Reading of the Feature Length Film “This is not an American Movie”

Summary/Abstract: The subject of scientific interest in this filmological study is intertextuality in the feature length film, This Is Not an American Movie, a post-modernist, self-referencing, metafictional, meta-cinematic parody, partly told in off-tone. It researches the process of film narration and the use of film techniques, mostly editing, as well as acting and screenwriting skills, in the creation of the film story, while the film protagonists are aware of themselves, i.e. they know they are characters in a film and act accordingly. This Is Not an American Movie is actually a handbook about the construction of a film story, handbook of film narration, but also, other intertextual referent elements are interpolate in his story, which are, accordingly, subject of a analytic interpretation in this study.
