Summary/Abstract: The present paper’s main theme is the portrayal of the Macedonian identity, or to be more accurate, the way Macedonia and the Macedonians are seen in three ’komitadji‘ films: Miss Stone (1958), I Told You So (1984), and Dust (2001). Several viewpoints are employed in the analysis of these films: when they were made and what the social circumstances at that time were; how they were received by the public and what is their place in the country’s cinematographic and cultural history; the specifics of narration and of the director’s poetics; the differences in the viewpoints of their main characters; the (dis)connection with particular historical events as well as their specific understanding, etc. By means of a comparative, interdiscursive reading of these films and by crossbreeding several scientific research methods such as: narratology, film theory and history, mythocritics and historiography, the author of this paper attempts to give a comprehensive analysis, description, and interpretation of the facts related to Macedonia and the Macedonians present in the three abovementioned cultural texts also known under the common name ’komitadji westerns‘, since they are, more or less, tailored according to the matrix of the American western film dramaturgy.
