Summary/Abstract: Nicolae Balotă's books reveal, each of them, another face of the scholar, another inner manner in order to be located in the Library's Universe, another revelation of the human. These are, in fact, the masks of the essayist, masks that hide and reveal simultaneously, these being aspects of his double spirit. Nicolae Balotă's texts are to be found, almost all, at the confluence between bookish and confession, between the rigor of the demonstration and the passional sensitivity in which the lyricism gives a specific mark to the savant sensitivity. Nicolae Balotă's essays have, beyond their scholarly figure, beyond the austerity of an academician vision, assumed affective accents which are linked to some privileged lectures, to a specific space of the bookish memory which gives the essayist the access path towards a past of the books that were read sometime or towards some favourite writers.
