Summary/Abstract: The first Romanian newspaper in the history of Maramures, entitled „Sfatul”, appeared on Friday, December 7 1918, less than a week after the proclamation of the Union of Transylvania and Maramures with the Empire of Romania on 1 December 1918. The newspaper had a number 4 pages, the weekly periodicity and appeared, with a single one-week interruption, for a year, in a total of 51 numbers (3 numbers in December 1918 and the other in 1919), until December 1919. It was subtitled "Official Organ of the Sfatul National Roman al Comitatului Maramures” and was written by two „responsible editors”: dr. Vasile Kindriş and dr. Titu Doroş. The documentary value of this publication is truly exceptional, if we consider that during World War II, Maramures then entered Horthyst Hungary, many archives were either taken and stored in Hungary in places unknown or inaccessible, either partially destroyed or simply lost. Thus, for some events, in the absence of archival documents, the pages become a primary source of information of the highest importance.
