Summary/Abstract: In this article we intend to outline the cultural profile of the Romanian and Hungarian cultures in the years preceding and following the 1918 Union. We synthesize well known information regarding cultural movements, phenomena, schools and tendencies in both cultures, attempting to identify common features. We highlight the role of cultural institutions, such as publications and periodicals, and we mention some issues regarding mutual translations. We aim to circumscribe the way the 1918 Union shaped and re-shaped the Hungarian and Romanian cultural life and milieu, introducing new dimensions, new attitudes and new ideas, all these happening in the context of political turbulences and/or social changes, which did not catalyze intercultural communication.
