Summary/Abstract: In this article we outline the historical evolution of translations within the larger field of Romanian-Hungarian/Hungarian-Romanian intercultural relations. We intend to make a presentation of the most remarkable moments, translators and volumes. We start off with the translation of sacred texts, continuing then with the contribution of the Transylvanian School, whose members were the promoters of modernization in Romanian culture, and who were, in the same time, the first translators of literary and non-literary texts. We further present the history of translations in the 19th century (translations in the domains of folk culture and the first high quality literary translations) and the 20th century (the remarkable progress in the domain of literary translations).
