Summary/Abstract: One of the main goals of the Structural Policy is to decrease the regional disparities and to promote economic growth within the European Union. Structural and cohesion funds are the most intensively used instruments by the Union to achieve this goal. The purpose of this study is to examine the framework of European funds and their impact on the member states’ economies. In order to access EU structural and cohesion funds for the 2014 - 2020 period, Romania has to take into account the EU's vision regarding the horizon of 2020, and specifically the Europe 2020 Strategy objectives. The document highlights a comparative analysis between the current and future programming period in order to identify the requirements which have to be considered by member states.
