E-government – a gateway to the future

Summary/Abstract: The paper highlights the concept of "e-government", which is define as “the use of the internet and electronic services in order to transmit public information to citizens”, as one of the essential elements of sustainable development. The authors demonstrated the direct linkage between e-government implementation and sustainable development. Thus, an international survey has been conducted with the main goal of evaluating the perception that representatives of the public, private, academic and non-government have on the sustainable development, the level of implementation and use of electronic public services. It has been emphasized not only the theoretical aspects regarding the e-government concept, but also the analysis of survey results and appropriate conclusions and measures for Romania in order to promote the usage of egovernment tools for administration and citizens.
