Summary/Abstract: In the new global context, the concept of trust, which stays at the very basis of banking, seems to be often challenged and more and more banks are struggling to regain it. The main objective of this study is to answer the questions “Why should we trust our bank?” and “What should banks to gain our trust?”. To achieve this objective, it has been conceived a comparative study of the causes of the present financial crisis connected with the idea of integrity- as a solution for stability and competitiveness, using available literature, critical analysis and professional experience of the author. The study itself is a dialogue with academicians, as well as with professionals, offering examples of principles that, once implemented, had a very positive effect for banks. As practical implications, the study shows, through case studies, how to address change and how to implement the concepts. The originality and value of the study comes from the suggestions that are made regarding concepts and methods that would contribute to competitive, stable and trustworthy banking institutions.
