Onomastics in the Service of Health, or About the Drugs Trade Names. Reconnaissance Research

Summary/Abstract: The article is based on a linguistic analysis of the names of Polish medicaments. The author focused on the tendencies in naming, provides an analysis of the word-formation structure of names, and deals also with factors that play an important role in the choice of names. The analysed material is divided into four groups: 1. Names with an element that is based on the name of the operating substance made in a curative product, 2. names of medicaments with the name of major organ systems, 3. names of medicaments with the name of diseases, 4. names of medicaments with descriptions.
