Summary/Abstract: For a long time, the media do not merely serve as conduits that are used to relay certain content; they have rather formed their own social environment and became part of our own natural-artificial milieu. The media place a modern man at the center of an entirely new environment and facilitate its integration. The media are friends and foes alike, loved but also despised... however, the fact remains that they are an epitome for all human requirements for entertainment, relaxation, they are providers of information without which a modern life would be unfathomable, and they also have a distinct educational role. Media have become our reference point and an integral part of our everyday life. In the era of mass/new media, having a solid knowledge about possibilities that a certain medium presents, is often considered to be a key element to success in many business roles. Most of what happens in the world of politics, economy, arts, even religion, is closely tied to and dependent upon available media. A fight for provoking attention is immense, it has to be earned, and not only once, but it has to be continually maintained and justified. With the aim to understand the world we live in, it is impossible to stay unacquainted and dissociated from the media and refrain from their usage for various purposes: they are objects and subjects at the same time. It is through the media that we are informed about many products and services in a way that exceeds information we acquire through personal usage of those goods and services. They provide information about innovations and deficiencies that us, as consumers, have no knowledge of. Mass communication and mass media are intertwined with our personal and professional lives. Although it is difficult to assess the power of certain media, the fact remains that their role is immense. It is those very media that reflect the life around us which affects us directly or indirectly.
