Summary/Abstract: The author describes a new phenomenon, that is a female wave in documentary film, on the example of the analysis of two films: “Communion” directed by Anna Zamecka (2016) and “Ties” directed by Zofia Kowalewska (2016). In both cases, we are dealing with an intimate family portrait viewed from a female perspective. Both films seem to be good examples of wider changes that Polish cinema is currently subject to. In the films “Communion” and “Ties”, there is a lack of perspectives of committed feminism, yet both escape the “patriarchal perspective” because of the authors’ consistent adoption of a woman’s gaze.
