The lexis of literary Albanian of the XV - XVII centuries

Summary/Abstract: This study focuses on the research of the lexis of the official Albanian language of the centuries XVI-XVIII. One of the main goals of this paper is to compare today's Albanian vocabulary with that of the XVI-XVIII centuries, in order to create a dictionary as product deriving from the documented material. This contribution would be linked to the creation of a dictionary which enlist the initial use of words. It is of crucial importance to study the lexis of the official Albanian language of the XVI-XVIII centuries because it shed light on the state of Albanian language in the XVI-XVIII centuries and makes it possible to deal with the language from a diachronic point of view, serves as a link between the past and the present and documents the historical lexis of the Albanian language. The lexis of the old authors is, among other things, a document of the official Albanian language in different periods of time in history, which provides documented material that would create a historical dictionary of the Albanian language. Besides the importance of studying the linguistic language of the Albanian language of the centuries XVI-XVIII, the research of the official Albanian lexis of c. XVI-XVIII also serves as a corpus for the first lexical documentation of the Albanian language, thus marking the source of the first use of lexical units in today's dictionaries. Nevertheless, taking into consideration the lexical and phonetical changes that may have occur in a period of more than 450 years.
